In Pointe Anne, Ontario, Hull was born. He was the son of cement industry foreman Robert Edward Hull and Lena Cook. His junior hockey career began in Belleville, and in the fall of 1954, he began playing Junior B hockey for the Woodstock Warriors.

As Ontario’s winners in 1955, Hull steered the Warriors to the Sutherland Cup. Before signing on with the Chicago Black Hawks in 1957 at the age of 18, he later played for the Galt Black Hawks and the St. Catharines Teepees in the Ontario Hockey Association.

After football, he spent a brief time playing hockey professionally with the Idaho Steelheads. Blake and Bobby Jr. both participated in junior and senior hockey. Bobby Jr. and the 1980 Cornwall Royals won the Memorial Cup.

When the OHA Senior A Hockey League (AAA Men’s Amateur) Allan Cup-winning Brantford Mott’s Clamatos formed in 1987, the brothers participated together on the ice.

Hull’s daughter Michelle was a skilled figure skater who, at age 11, won the British Columbia Pre-Novice Championship. She had to give up figure skating due to repeated knee problems, and now she has dual state licenses as an attorney.
