Dexter Clarence Byrd, but the relationship ended when he remarried his first wife.

At the age of 17, Euple’s wife was not yet of legal age so her mother would be required to sign the marriage paperwork, but she refused. The couple fought throughout their marriage. Most of their fights were due to Byrd being unable to hold down a steady job. Euple worked as a construction worker. According to sources, while Tammy was pregnant with their first child, the married couple lived in what was practically a shack. There was no heat or electricity, and the couple had to make do with whatever they could.

After becoming pregnant again, Wynette asked her husband Euple to leave but he kept returning. Sources have it that, after one argument, Wynette couldn’t take it anymore and suffered a “nervous breakdown”. According to biographer Jimmy McDonough, her family took her to a psychiatric hospital. Doctors diagnosed her with depression and gave her 12 rounds of electric shock treatment.

Upon her recovery, the singer still insisted on filing for divorce from Euple Byrd, however, her mother disapproved. This made Wynette secretly move with her children to Birmingham, Alabama. While in Birmingham, Byrd returned and Wynette agreed to give their marriage one more chance. However, their problems continued and they eventually divorced in 1965. Wynette moved on and got married three times after their marriage ended.
